Episcopal CHurch of the Holy Trinity, Midland TX
Our new Rector - Fr. Bob Hennagin

Dear Parish Family,                                                                                                                 March 11, 2020

The vestry would like to share the most joyful news from our last two vestry meetings: we have called Fr. Bob to be our next rector!

To give you a little history… When Bishop Scott learned we would be needing a priest last year, he strongly recommended Fr. Bob for Holy Trinity. The Vestry approved Fr. Bob, Kari, and Colby to come for that purpose and stay for a year or year and a half.  In effect, we feel Bishop Scott set us all up on a blind date.  Fr. Bob told us in his first sermon that he fell in love with his parishes very easily, but I don’t think we expected to fall so hard and so fast. But fall, we did.

After the better part of a year, the parish has delighted the vestry with stories of their admiration for Fr. Bob and have commented on our return to a safe, happy community.  These stories almost always ended with, “…I just wish he could stay!”

During our February meeting, the vestry unanimously decided to follow the parish’s lead and contact the Bishop to seek permission to call Fr. Bob (and Kari and Colby) to stay on a permanent basis.  To our surprise and delight, the Bishop quickly, enthusiastically, and lovingly agreed.

So last Monday night, we enthusiastically and unanimously called Fr. Bob to be our permanent rector; he agreed.  We immediately called the Bishop, (from the meeting) who shared in our delight and acceptance.  The covenant (contract) was ready to sign. I signed it, Fr. Bob has signed it and it is now in Bishop Mayer’s hand for his official signature.

I am thrilled to announce that on March 15, 2020 Fr. Bob Hennagin will officially become the Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity!

Although most of us have never heard of calling an Episcopal priest in just this way, we learned that many dioceses are following this exact process. The shortage of available priests, especially priests willing to take on interim rector work, has caused the Episcopal Church to adapt. While there are definite advantages to the “traditional” search process, the priest-in-charge method we’ve experienced (sometimes affectionately known as “rent to own”) also has great advantages.  We know that Fr. Bob and his family are the right fit for us. He knows us and all our “dirty laundry” and he loves us anyway.  The vestry is assured that Holy Trinity is in full compliance with the policies of the Episcopal church.

What now? We will continue the good work we have started. We will enjoy Fr. Bob’s sermons, look forward to incredible anthems, eat too much potluck food on Sunday, and love each other like crazy. We will work together on keeping our aging church building inviting and safe, enjoy Sunday morning breakfast, catch-up over a cup of coffee, relish the preschool children’s voices in the halls, bless the animals, become closer in our relationship with God, and love each other like crazy. We will also take time to get to know each other better, increase our mission and outreach programs, and form a strategic plan for Holy Trinity’s future.  But mostly, we’re going to love each other like crazy.

If you have any questions, please see Father Bob or me.  We are more than happy to speak with you. The Vestry believes this may possibly be the best blind date ever!

With Grace, love and mercy,

Carla Holeva

Senior Warden
