Response to Coronavirus Concern

In response to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and the flu, we want to alleviate any fears or anxieties you may have and encourage you to consider the following precautions.

Here are the suggestions from the World Health Organization:

  • Wash your hands frequently, using soap and water or an alcohol-based rub.
  • Practice respiratory hygiene. Cover your mouth with the crook of your elbow when sneezing or coughing; discard tissues immediately.
  • In general, maintain a distance of a meter between you and those who are coughing, sneezing, or evidently ill.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • If you feel ill or unwell, you should, as a general rule, seek medical care immediately and not attend parish events.

As far as receiving communion and passing of the peace, please use individual discretion.

Here are some suggestions from Episcopal Relief and Development:
Communion: those who are ill should stay home; those who are concerned may abstain from communion or receive “in one kind” (host only); use of the common cup with proper purificator procedure presents relatively low risk; intinction should be avoided, if possible

  • Sharing of the Peace: waving or bowing is perfectly acceptable in place of shaking hands or hugging
  • Pray for those who are sick or otherwise affected by these illnesses

A note from Fr. Bob-

I've just read that a Roman Catholic diocese in Texas has banned Communion wine due to Covid-19. I believe an Episcopal diocese in the northeast has as well.

I think we should take Covid-19 seriously, but not hysterically. To this end, Holy Trinity will continue using a common cup. Please feel free to intinct or skip the cup. The sacrament is just as valid in one kind.

I do ask that, as always, if you are sick that you stay home. God will understand.

Please note as well, that I am the last person to drink from the cup. In nearly 30 years, I have never gotten sick: Sars, HIV, H1N1, the common cold.

Don't be reckless, but don't panic.

The Diocese of Northwest Texas has also released a statement on the Coronavirus. You can find that information here.

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact David Romanik.
