A New Hat Hi, I am Karen Parnell, Director of Holy Trinity Children’s Day Out. This September I will begin my fourth year with this program. Since starting in 2004, I have gone from the three-year-old teacher to the Director, had three fun-packed summer programs, and now begin this school year as a state licensed facility with a formidable preschool program. I have two wonderful children; Andie who is 11 and beginning 6th grade and Taylor who soon turns 8 and will start 2nd grade. Both girls are currently at Scharbauer Elementary. My husband Stan is my rock and my best friend. I was raised Episcopalian at All Saints Episcopal Church and later moved to St. Clements where Stan and I were married – both churches are in El Paso. When our family arrived in Midland in 1999 we soon sought out an Episcopal church that felt most like home and Holy Trinity fit. I have very happy memories of attending church as I was growing up. My mom played the organ for as long as I can remember and continues to play the organ at Trinity Church in Junction, Texas. Being part of a church family continues to be very much a part of my life. When the opportunity arose for me to become the new Director of Children’s Ministries, my love of children, the church, and of Midland made the decision easy. I look forward to making wonderful memories with your children. Thank you for this "new hat". Karen Parnell Director of Children’s Ministries and Director of Holy Trinity Children’s Day Out

WOMEN'S RETREAT September 28-30, 2007 Bishop Quarterman Conference Center, Amarillo, Texas The Reverend Susan Sims-Smith from the Diocese of Arkansas will join us to lead a weekend retreat for women. Her ministry is called Seedwork. SeedWork was created to enliven the faith of those within the church, to reach out to those who are unchurched, and to restore relationships with those who have felt hurt by the church. It is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas. Before becoming ordained as an Episcopal priest, The Rev. Sims-Smith worked for 25 years as a psychotherapist. She has taught extensively on dreams, committed relationships, and prayer and meditation. This workshop examines how dreams communicate the needs of the soul as participants prayerfully seek God's guidance to live their lives. The rich spiritual discipline of understanding dreams and seeking to live in harmony with the messages they bring can enrich lives with comfort, challenge, and practical solutions to problems of daily life. For more information about her work please go to: http://www.seedwork.org/index.html Registration information: Paula Howbert , 432-697-6536, pfhowbert@prodigy.net
Dear Church Family: Thank you so much for the beautiful going-away reception on the 19th. It has been a special three years being your financial/facilities person. I’ve learned a lot and I hope the church benefited also. I will think of you all fondly and just remember my social calendar is open, so—sign up for coffee, lunch, a visit—OR maybe I’ll see you in the aisles of HEB. Peace—Joyce

The Midland 35 Holy Trinity is taking part in a ministry of the Midland Ministerial Alliance called, The Midland 35. We are committed to give $1,000 to MMA to raise $35,000 in 35 days (September 2-October 5, 2007) to open a drop-in center for women and children sexually exploited in Chiang Mai, Thailand and surrounding regions. Every year hundreds of thousands of women and children are prostituted around the globe. It is estimated that 1 million children annually enter the multi-billion dollar industry of commercial sexual exploitation. The Midland 35 is a cooperative mission to raise monies that will be sent to The Garden of Hope to open a drop-in center, where at-risk women and children can escape exploitation, find counseling, receive aid, and learn about Jesus. A city-wide corporate worship and celebration is scheduled for Saturday evening, October 6. The location and time will be announced later, STAY TUNED! Check out the website: www.midland35.com.
Word for the Day When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say, "I used everything you gave me." Erma Bombeck
