Dear Holy Trinity Family, Last week when I was preparing the Pew Bulletin, my eye was caught by the second lesson, specifically 2 Thessalonians 3:4-5. And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will go on doing the things that we command. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ. There is a core group of parishioners that desire to preserve and continue "the Body of Christ" here at Holy Trinity, to see their faith community alive and active. I admire their focus and vision despite the difficulties with the national church and it's seemingly opposite teachings of Christ. This group has put their faith in Christ Jesus and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I think this "core group" and many of you continue to do and will go on doing the things that have been commanded by Christ. What is it that Christ is truly asking us to do? Love one another as I have loved you. A simple statement, yet so complex, so difficult. How do we go about doing that? One way is "to share the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ with all people". Have we lost sight of that mission statement? Are we welcoming to everyone that walks through our doors? Have we gone out to all the world to spread the good news? Every church, every faith community faces these questions. It's not specific to Holy Trinity. Christ has asked all of us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those in prison. Holy Trinity has long had a reputation for outreach: Hospice of Midland, Hope House, Meals on Wheels, mission trips to the Dominican Republic, Christmas-in-Action, Habitat for Humanity, Midland Soup Kitchen — all these we have been involved in as a Christ-centered community with our time, talent, and treasure. Have we stopped looking outward to the needs of others? Let us rethink what we are about here at Holy Trinity. Let's think about why we are here. We are here to worship, adore and glorify our God. When we are faithful to worshipping God and steadfast in our faith we become radiant with the love of Christ. We cannot help but love as Christ loves. In this way we become the "light of Christ" which draws others to Christ as moths to a flame. Isn't this really what we are meant to do in this world, to spread the good news and bring all people to Christ? And we have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will go on doing the things that we command. Let's do the things that we have been commanded to do by our God, our Creator and Redeemer. Let's look out the window and see who we can reach out to today. To whom can we reveal our glorious God to. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.
Your Sister in Christ, Cindy Wimberly
