MINUTES ANNUAL PARISH MEETING

January 27, 2008

The Reverend Mark Cannaday opened the Annual Parish meeting of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity at 11:15 a.m. with a prayer followed by his opening comments in which he thanked Karen Parnell and the Children’s Day Out Program for the brunch.

Anne Hover, Senior Warden began the meeting with all present singing "Alleluia No. 1" A quorum was established and declared. Mrs. Hover asked the parishioners to read the minutes of the previous Annual Parish meeting of January 28, 2007, as printed in the annual report. The minutes were approved as printed.

Anne Hover, representative of the Nominating Committee presented the slate of Vestry nominees. The nominees were: Jack Bilbo, Jody Gilles, Orman Hubbard, Terry Jolliffe, Jim Newman, Stan Parnell, Robbie Sheppard, J.K. Wilson. Each Candidate introduced themselves. Mark Wheeler served as Teller.

Anne announced the slate of nominees for Delegate to Convention. The nominees were: Anne Hover, George Hover, Sara O’Leary, Fred Westmoreland. Anne informed the parishioners that Karen Mason has withdrawn her name as delegate therefore a fourth delegate will be elected for a 1 year term. Anne asked if there were any nominations from the floor. Marilyn Allen explained that Holy Trinity will need alternates to serve as per Diocesan Canon 14, Section 4,B. After a discussion, Jody Gilles moved to elect all four candidates on the ballot as delegates to convention by a voice vote. The motion was seconded and passed. Election results for Delegates to Convention were: Anne Hover, George Hover, Sara O’Leary and Fred Westmoreland.

Nancy Stewart moved to allow the non-winning candidates for vestry to become delegate alternates to the convention. The motion was seconded and passed.

Anne Hover explained the voting procedure for election of Vestry members and Delegates to the Convention as per HT Canon 5, Sec 2.:

4 Vestry members will be elected by a majority of votes on the first ballot. If a second ballot is required then the Vestry member will be elected by a plurality.

The ballots were distributed by the tellers. The members voted and the ballots were collected for counting.

A video overview of the year 2007 was presented by Deborah Chester.

Angela Stephens, treasurer, presented the Financial Statements dated December 31, 2007 as printed in the annual report. She also presented the Trust Fund report. The Trust Fund Committee is currently reorganizing it’s membership. The 2008 Vestry will research this and make a recommendation.

Cindy Olive made a special presentation.

Deborah Chester presented the 2008 budget as printed in the annual report. Kenny Jastrow made a motion to approve the 2008 Budget. The motion was seconded. A lengthy discussion and questions followed. The motion passed.

Anne Hover announced that the 2007 and 2008 Apportionments have been forgiven in total with the penalty of "no vote" at the convention as per NWT Diocesan Canon 2, Section 7. A lengthy discussion concerning The NWT Diocesan Canon 2, Section 7 incurred.

There was an overwhelming consensus of the Parish to direct Holy Trinity delegates and vestry to petition the Standing Committee concerning the upcoming NWT Diocesan Bishop Elections Convention taking place on May 3, as well as the October Annual Diocesan Convention, for the resolution of the Standing Committee provided in Canon 2, Section 7.

This resolution along with a two-thirds vote of the Convention of May 3 and again at the Annual Convention would allow for any parish in this Diocese that has not paid their full apportionment to be able to recover their vote in the Bishop elections as well as the Annual Convention .

Anne announced the Vestry election results: With 105 ballots cast, 53 were needed for a majority. Vestry members elected by majority- Jody Gilles, Orman Hubbard and Jim Newman.

Mary Lou Cassidy moved to fill the remaining positions by a plurality as per the canons. The motion was seconded and passed. Ballots were again handed out by the tellers. The members voted for one vestry candidate and the ballots were collected for counting.

Election results for Vestry: Terry Jolliffe.

The non-winning vestry candidates that will serve as Alternate Delegates for Convention are: J. K. Wilson, Jack Bilbo, Robbie Sheppard, Stan Parnell.

Deborah Chester invited parishioners to join the Visioning Workshop Team.

Deacon Mary Collier explained her position in taking a sabbatical while working full time at Allison Cancer Center.

Senior Warden, Anne Hover recognized Vestry members: Terry Staub, Carol Armstrong, Deborah Chester, Connie Godlevski, Russ Robken, Don Olive, Sam Stephens, Marilyn Allen, Mark Wheeler. She gave them a gift and thanked them for their service.

Anne Hover announced that the new vestry will meet in Room 1 immediately following the meeting.

Father Mark made his closing remarks and closed with a prayer.

The Annual Parish Meeting was adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
