Do the Right Thing

I remember when I was a kid I heard words of wisdom such as, "Doing good is its own reward" and "March to the beat of your own drummer!" I always understood those expressions to mean that doing the right thing is always best even if those around you fail to acknowledge or appreciate it.

As the school years ends and the summer begins, it is a good time to reflect on what we have achieved during the past year. It’s tempting to think that if we didn’t receive accolades or affirmation for the things we accomplished they probably weren’t worth doing. But nothing could be farther from the truth!

I wanted to share with you a quote from Kent Keith that I have found very helpful:

"People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies.

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you.

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight.

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, there may be jealousy.

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow.

Be good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.

Give the world the best you have anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God.

It was never between you and them anyway."

Have a great summer!

Affectionately, Fr. Andy+

Scripture in God's Plan of Revelation

In carefully planning and preparing the salvation of the whole human race the God of infinite love, by a special dispensation, chose for himself a people to whom he would entrust his promises. First he entered into a covenant with Abraham (Gen. 15:18) and, through Moses, with the people of Israel (Ex. 24:8). To this people which he had acquired for himself, he so manifested himself through words and deeds as the one true and living God that Israel came to know by experience the ways of God with men. Then too, when God himself spoke to them through the mouth of the prophets, Israel daily gained a deeper and clearer understanding of his ways and made them more widely known among the nations (Ps. 21:29; 95:1-3; Is 2:1-5; Jer. 3:17).

The plan of salvation foretold by the sacred authors, recounted and explained by them, is found as the true word of God in the books of the Old Testament. The principal purpose to which the plan of the old covenant was directed was to prepare for the coming of Christ, the redeemer of all and of the messianic kingdom, to announce this coming by prophecy (Lk. 24:44; Jn. 5:39; 1 Pt. 1:10), and to indicate its meaning through various types (1 Cor. 10:12). Now the books of the Old Testament though they also contain some things which are incomplete and temporary, nevertheless show us true divine pedagogy.

Shawl Ministers

The Shawl Ministry thanks each and every one of you who have made all the beautiful shawls. They are truly works of art as well as works of love. With the coming of warm weather we have less need for them and we have a nice supply on hand that will be sufficient for the summer. I feel we can all have a summer vacation from our labors and will reinstate Tuesday morning knitting in October when the weather is cool again.

Again, my thanks to each and every one of you for such a wonderful response to my request and I will call you again in the fall. Have a happy and blessed summer.

Mission & Outreach Corner

The church is sponsoring a blood drive on Sunday, June 24, 2007, from 8:30 to 12:00. It has been a few years since the last drive and this is a good opportunity to give to the community from a personal and physical point (pun intended) of view.

Look for the sign up sheet in the parish hall. At this point, I am not sure of the logistics (blood mobile or in St. Francis Hall), but I will let you know.

Thanks for your support.
