Sharing in Christ's Sufferings

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.  But rejoice in so far as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, so that you may also be glad and shout for joy when his glory is revealed.  If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you.  But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, a criminal, or even as a mischief-maker.  Yet if any of you suffers as a Christian, do not consider it a disgrace, but glorify God because you bear this name. For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with us, what will be the end for those who do not obey the gospel of God?  And ‘If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinners?’  Therefore, let those suffering in accordance with God’s will entrust themselves to a faithful Creator, while continuing to do good. 1 Peter 4:12-19 NRSV

We find peace in our epistle reading this week that as Christians we not only are to endure suffering, but are even to rejoice, provided that we continue to do good, to focus on the work God has set for us.  In doing so, we bring glory to God.  He does not create suffering, but allows it with a purpose, in order to strengthen us.  Paul, in his letter to the Romans (8:28), reminds us that “We know all things work together for good for those who love God, and are called according to His purpose”.  While it is often difficult in the midst of our sufferings to see God’s purpose for us, we can rest assured that there is good in knowing that we will grow stronger, and that He is perfecting us through our difficult times.

Combined Services

The Vestry of Holy Trinity has decided to temporarily combine the Sunday 5:15pm service with the Monday 5:15pm service, effective June 2, 2008.  The combined services will be held on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 5:15pm.

Between now and June 2, 2008, the Sunday 5:15pm service will be Evening Prayer led by one of the Lay Readers.

Hopefully, when we have either an interim priest or permanent rector, the Sunday 5:15pm service will be re-instituted.

Respectfully,

Jody Gilles, Senior Warden

Dear Friends:

Subject: Bishop Election - Diocese of Northwest Texas

On April 25, 2007 The Rt. Rev. Wallis Ohl, bishop of the Diocese of Northwest Texas, announced his intention to retire effective November 2, 2008.  As the diocese continues its search for the 5th Bishop of the Diocese, we have chosen to reopen the nominating process.

The Nominating/Transition Committee will be receiving nominations until May 31,

2008.  On-site visits will be scheduled in July 2008.  The electing convention will convene in the fall of 2008 at a date yet to be determined.

A Diocesan Profile and Nomination Form are available at the diocesan website, www.nwt.org.  A copy of the Nomination Form is also enclosed for your convenience.

Nominations should be mailed to Mr. Cliff Craig, 2801 Teckla Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106, or e-mailed to ccraig@neely.com

We ask you to help us spread the word throughout the Episcopal Church so our call will generate a deep and rich pool of nominees with a variety of gifts, talents, and strengths.

Your prayers are also invited as our work continues.

Yours in Christ,

Cliff Craig

Chairman, Nominating/Transition Committee

ccraig@neely.com

Please note that the form can be found at the Diocese of Northwest Texas website:

www.nwt.org

or call the Parish office, 683-4207, to pick up a form.
