Sharing
in Christ's Sufferings Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice in so far as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, so that you may also be glad and shout for joy when his glory is revealed. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, a criminal, or even as a mischief-maker. Yet if any of you suffers as a Christian, do not consider it a disgrace, but glorify God because you bear this name. For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with us, what will be the end for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And ‘If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinners?’ Therefore, let those suffering in accordance with God’s will entrust themselves to a faithful Creator, while continuing to do good. 1 Peter 4:12-19 NRSV We find peace in our epistle reading this week that
as Christians we not only are to endure suffering, but are even to rejoice,
provided that we continue to do good, to focus on the work God has set for us.
In doing so, we bring glory to God.
He does not create suffering, but allows it with a purpose, in order to
strengthen us. Paul, in his letter to the Romans (8:28), reminds us that
“We know all things work together for good for those who love God, and are
called according to His purpose”. While
it is often difficult in the midst of our sufferings to see God’s purpose for
us, we can rest assured that there is good in knowing that we will grow
stronger, and that He is perfecting us through our difficult times. Jim

combine the Sunday 5:15pm service with the Monday 5:15pm service, effective June

be held on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 5:15pm. Between now and June 2, 2008, the Sunday 5:15pm
service will be Evening Prayer led by one of the Lay Readers. Hopefully, when we have either an interim priest or
