VBS 2007 Hooray for Holy-Wood June 11-15 Every year around 200 children descend on the Holy Trinity campus for Vacation Bible School. We sing, make great crafts, play outside, and, of course, hear Bible stories, but one of the most amazing accomplishments of the week is always our mission project. This year will be no different and actually bigger than other years in its scope and impact. Angela Stephens and Jane Swartz recently met a young woman who lives and works in the streets of Uganda’s Kampala city, a city of five million people. Kampala’s children have very little clothing to speak of, and most of the street children in Kampala eat only one meal a day that consists of a small portion of millet, if they get anything at all. The shining stars that attend our VBS can give a glimmer of hope to our African neighbors when we send much-needed every-day items that most of us take for granted. The children are being asked to bring throughout the week — bar soap, vitamins, toothbrushes, toothpaste, gently worn t-shirts, new underwear, and new or gently worn shoes that have been cleaned. By choosing some of their own gently worn t-shirts, our fortunate little ones will be providing a basic human need as well as giving someone dignity. Vitamins we send could boost their immune system, even if it’s only for a short time. Sarah Mugoya, the young woman who works in Uganda, will pass out all of the items we collect during VBS. Age-appropriate lessons will be taught to VBS children about the experiences faced by thousands of African children their own ages. We will be sending information home each day about the lessons taught, so please ask the children to tell you what they learned! When our children are given the chance to participate in helping others they will be given the true gift and will become the "stars" in this Holywood show! You can be a shining star too, by helping us collect as many items as possible. Starting June 4, there will be a collection box in the "red" room of the Parish Hall for any Holy Trinity parishioners who would like to take part in this very special VBS mission project.
Blessings, Dedee Boring, Director of Children’s Ministries

From Your Vestry — In an effort to further communication between the Vestry of Holy Trinity and the parishioners, we are soliciting your questions to be addressed in the Weekly Newsletter. Please email your questions to lucia.gray@gmail.com (Lucia Gray), juliahharvey@gmail.com (Julie Harvey), billg@compassoperating.com (Bill Granberry) or to any other vestry member. Question: Why has Holy Trinity remained a part of The Episcopal Church (formerly ECUSA) when so many of our parishioners disagree with the direction The Episcopal Church (TEC) is taking? Answer: The vestry has chosen to remain faithful to the Anglican Communion by waiting until the September 30 deadline posed by the Anglican Primates to TEC as specified in the Tanzania Communiqué. Depending on the outcome, Holy Trinity’s vestry will have to determine "what next?"
