FROM THE RECTOR

Mother Teresa left her mark on a broken world. Only mentioning her name makes us stop and give thanks. She walked where too few of us would and brought dignity and hope to the outcast and alien. In remembering her I also recall a little piece from a book about her – A Simple Path - worthy of keeping before us. They might be used as Lectio each day so that the deeper meaning can begin to penetrate. I hope these words will make their home in you.

THE SIMPLE PATH

The fruit of silence is

PRAYER.

The fruit of prayer is

FAITH.

The fruit of faith is

LOVE.

The fruit of love is

SERVICE

The fruit of service is

PEACE.

From Your Vestry —

Question: What does the vestry do on a month by month basis?

Answer: Each month the vestry tends to the business of the church by reviewing the financial statements and making sure the property is well cared for. A few of the current projects include evaluating our insurance policies to assure we have proper coverage at a good rate and researching a fire alarm system and security system. Children’s Day Out is getting a new playground surface that should be in for Vacation Bible School to enjoy. Our Mission & Outreach programs continue with a scholarship and new sound system for Easter College in the Philippines.

In an effort to further communication between the Vestry of Holy Trinity and the parishioners, we are soliciting your questions to be addressed in the weekly newsletter. Please email your questions to lucia.gray@gmail.com (Lucia Gray), juliahharvey@gmail.com (Julie Harvey), billg@compassoperating.com (Bill Granberry) or to any other vestry member.

Mission & Outreach Corner

The church is sponsoring a blood drive on Sunday, June 24, 2007, from 8:30 to 12:00. It has been a few years since the last drive and this is a good opportunity to give to the community from a personal and physical point (pun intended) of view.

Look for the sign up sheet in the parish hall. At this point, I am not sure of the logistics (blood mobile or in St. Francis Hall), but I will let you know.

Thanks for your support.

First Sunday of the Month Potluck Lunch

I am writing to thank each of your for your continuing support and participation in our First Sunday of the Month Potluck Lunch. We have been sharing these meals together every month since October 2005 and I can't think of a better way to extend our Sunday Sacred Fellowship. Thank you for all the amazing dishes you bring so that we may feast together.

I want to particularly thank the following Potluck Angels who, month after month, give our Holy Trinity Family their gifts of set-up and clean-up — with joy and laughter and love for each and every one!

See you on July 1!!

What is the Significance of Being United to Christ in Holy Communion?

The principal fruit of receiving the Eucharist in Holy Communion is an intimate union with Christ Jesus. This union encompasses at least three significant elements.

Participating in the  One Sacrifice of Christ

Jesus, our Great High Priest, lovingly offered his own life on the cross as a holy sacrifice to the Father for our sins. As the spotless "Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29), Jesus established the everlasting covenant — "the new covenant in my blood" (Luke 22:20) — with the father. In the Eucharist, this one sacrifice of Christ is again made fully present. By taking part in the liturgy of the Eucharist, we join ourselves to this one holy sacrifice of Christ. The celebration of the Eucharist culminates in the reception of Holy Communion.

We are nourished in the Eucharistic banquet by the living bread, and we partake of the cup of our salvation. The Risen Lord Jesus comes to dwell personally within us, and so we share in his life and friendship. He gives himself completely and entirely to us, and we are called to give ourselves completely and entirely to him. We are also lifted up into his heavenly Kingdom, and, in union with him, we are embraced by the Father in the love of the Holy Spirit as his redeemed sons and daughters. Receiving Jesus in Holy Communion, therefore, fortifies us against sin, which damages our relationship with God; heals our weaknesses; and empowers us to live holy lives of sacrificial love for one another.

Standing Committee Designs Time Line

for Election and Consecration

On April 25, the Standing Committee of the diocese met with the Rt. Rev. Clay Matthews, Office of Pastoral Development, and designed a time line for the orderly succession for the fifth Bishop of Northwest Texas. The time line calls for a questionnaire to be sent to the people of Northwest Texas in June 2007 and a profile of the diocese to be developed in July 2007. In August, each deanery will elect three members (at least one clergy and one lay) and the Standing Committee will appoint four members to the Nominating/Transition Committee. The Standing Committee will present the diocesan profile and give its charge to the N/T Committee which in turn will accept nominations for bishop in October. The nominees will be screened November-December 2007 and on-site visits will take place January-February 2008. Nominees will be announced in March, an introduction/walk about will take place in April with the election planned for late April and the consecration in late October 2008. Canon 45, Nomination and Election of Bishops , is the diocesan canon covering the process which may be found at nwt.org.
