January 10, 2008 William Laud Beloved in Christ, One of the Biblical sayings known by most, I think, is from Ecclesiastes: For everything its season, and for every activity under heaven its time. After that verse, of course, comes the list of "everything." You might read Ecclesiastes, chapter 3, and see if you discover what this "everything" means for you: I am sorry to tell you that I am resigning and retiring from Holy Trinity as the ninth Rector. My last work here will be February 29, 2008. Doris and I are grateful for the generous way we have been treated in this parting. With a monumental loss of income and members, the difficulty of continuing as we have before is not possible. The Vestry acted with great care and hard work in making a proposal and then continuing to work on for the future. I know you will give thanks to God, as we do, for the effort made under the duress of these circumstances. We would write the ending differently if we could. Since we cannot, we promise our prayers for all that you do to continue Holy Trinity in Christian community. There is a future and it can be quite good with the already renewed effort we have been making. Continue! Our time here unfortunately coincided with things well beyond our control. Even so, it has been a good experience with the most important thing in life: Christian community. In other words, you. Thank you for all that you did to overcome and please, continue, in Christ, to the same effort. Asking God’s blessings for you and yours and thank you for your blessings asked from God for us in return. Since we plan at this time to continue living in Midland, we will see one another as the days go on, even as I will not be available to you as priest after February 29. For Doris and me, it is "a time to embrace."
Blessings and love, The Rev. Dr. Mark L. Cannaday, Obl. OSB Rector
Hiring an Interim Priest The procedure to hire an Interim Priest is as follows:
Note: The priest is not appointed by the Bishop. Our vestry will make the decision to hire or not. In the meantime we have lined up a few "Supply Priests" to keep us covered and to help the Interim Priest. We have Fr. Allen Whitman who has offered to take the Sunday 10:00am Holy Eucharist and the Monday evening 5:15pm HE and Healing Service. We also have Fr. Malcolm Slayter who has offered to take the weekday services, the Tuesday morning at 7:00am and Thursday 11:00am. In the meantime, we will form a search committee to find a permanent rector. Bishop Ohl had wise words about this: "Pray, be cautious, be deliberate and take your time". We want to find the right person for our church. If we are in a panic, we may pick the wrong one. He said he has seen it in other churches time and time again and they end up with the wrong priest. We will be covered by the Interim Priest, our Supply Priests and we will be in God's hands. Anne Hover, Sr. Warden

So you think God can't use you? The next time you feel like God can't use YOU, just remember… Noah was a drunk, Abraham and Sarah were too old, Isaac was a daydreamer, Jacob was a liar, Leah was ugly, Joseph was abused, Moses had a stuttering problem, Gideon was afraid, Samson had long hair and was a womanizer, Rahab was a prostitute, Jeremiah and Timothy were too young, David had an affair and was a murderer, Elijah was suicidal, Jonah ran from God, Naomi was a widow, Job went bankrupt, Martha worried about everything; Zaccheus was too small, the Samaritan woman was divorced several times, Timothy had an ulcer, Paul was too religious, and Lazarus was dead! So — what's your excuse? In truth, God can use you to your full potential whatever your past. Why? Because you aren't the message - you are the messenger...
