WHAT'S HAPPENING?

If you HAPPEN to see a bunch of enthusiastic, excited, exuberant teens, and exhausted adults February 2-4 at Holy Trinity, its HAPPENING #30! HAPPENING is a teenage version of Cursillo. It brings together High School teens from throughout the Diocese for a powerful spiritual renewal. Its design is to help them know who they are in God’s plan in order to live with new sight and insight. Our theme this year is "Running the Race…Eyes on Jesus."

HAPPENING is not a retreat but a once in a lifetime experience. It concentrates closely on Jesus and his teachings. HAPPENING is a way for youth to strengthen their Christian journey. HAPPENING is run by student leaders who have attended HAPPENING, many from this Parish. Our youth rector this weekend is over very own Senior Alex Purdy. A small number of adults who have also attended Happening help out as needed, and meals are being provided by Holy Trinity parishioners.

The weekend is full of activity including eating, singing, teaching about Jesus and sharing. It’s a place for youth to be accepted for who they are by other youth who aren’t afraid to be themselves! If you know anyone interested in coming, or if you would like to help out with prayers, food, caritas (notes of encouragement to our HAPPENERS and team members) please give me a call!

They will be joining us for pot luck on Sunday, so please bring extra to share!

Yours in Christ,

Paula Howbert

Treasurer's Report

December 2006

                                        Current Month                  Year-to-Date              Total Budgeted

Funds Received                     $159,628                         $825,390                 $806,079

Funds Expended                      81,755                            843,811                   913,283

(Over Expenditure)/Under     ($777,873)                         ($18,421)             ($107,204)

So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Just Ask Me…

Dear Miss Know It All,
I have been watching PBS, and there was a VICAR on the show. (It was an historical piece set in England). Is that a priest? Or is that what they call them in England?
Dumb Founded

Dear Dumb Founded,
There are vicars in the Episcopal church, dearie. The title generally applies to a priest in charge of a mission congregation. Josie Rose, across town at St. Maria Virgen, would be a vicar. The term is derived from the Latin vicarius "substitute". The diocesan bishop is the rector and the priest representing the bishop is the vicar. The term of vicar is not used in all dioceses, and may not be used in this one.

Prayer of St. Francis de Sales

Be at peace. Do not fear the changes of life; rather, look to them with full hope as they arise. God, whose very own you are, will deliver you from out of them. God has kept you hitherto, and God will lead you safely through all things, and when you cannot stand it, God will bury you in his arms. Do not be afraid of what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting God who cares for you today will either shield you from suffering or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.  Be at peace, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.

Fire tests iron; temptation tests an honest person. Sometimes we don't know what we can do until temptation shows us what we are.

Thomas À Kempis,

The Imitation of Christ
