Prayers of Encouragement I would like to share the following prayers as means of encouragement during this time of discernment and in preparation for Lent. These two prayers continue to give me hope and remind me to continually let go of my selfish nature and to hold onto my faith in God because God is in control of my life. "My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I can not know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone." Merton’s Prayer – Thomas Merton
"If the Lord is my light and my salvation, is there anything on earth for me to fear? If the Lord really is my sure defense, is there anything to dread when he’s so near?
I ask my loving God for just one thing… to dwell within his house and never leave, to be allowed to look upon his face, to see the beauty there and long to cleave. I’m in a troubled time and this I know…He will conceal me in his house of love. In his great tabernacle I can hide within his secret place on high above. He’ll lift me to his rock and keep me there. When evil comes and seeks to make me fall, I’ll stumble not while I am in his fold. Around me he will build his mighty wall. I know he never will abandon me. Even if all earthly mortals do. The Lord will never turn his face away, His goodness shines on me to see me through. I pray my Lord will teach to me His way and make his pathway plain for me to see. I’ll wait upon him with courageous strength and as I wait I know he’ll come to me.
Yes, the Lord is my light and my salvation. There’s nothing here on earth for me to fear. The Lord really is my sure defense; There’s nothing I should dread when he’s so near. I’ll wait upon Him!" Fearless Trust from Psalm 27 by Sara Richter
God’s peace to you and all of your loved ones, Mary Collier, Your Deacon

Great Dates! March 3 Great Dates is an award-winning marriage education program that helps couples recharge the fun and conversation in their relationship. Great Dates is an opportunity for couples to have time-out to build their marriage and to enrich their relationship. It’s a unique program that combines fun dates and marriage education skills. The concept is simple. First, couples meet together as a group. Each session begins with a short video date launch, where the theme for that particular date is introduced. Then couples experience their own "great date" by actually going out on a date with their partner! During these purposeful dates, couples learn to communicate better, process anger and resolve conflicts, appreciate differences, encourage each other, develop spiritual intimacy, and balance busy lifestyles. Great Dates is appropriate for ALL ages and stages of marriage. Come and join in the fun!

Dear Miss Know It All,
ICON CLASS Starting during Lent, this 10 week session will explore the history of and meaning behind ICONS as a part of our spiritual worship of God. We will be writing (painting) an ICON, following the traditional methods of Iconography that have prevailed through the ages. Exact time and day for the classes will be published in the newsletter soon, so if you are interested, please call Kathy Wurster (686-9482) or Cindy Olive (686-9545) to register (class size is very limited, so call soon to reserve a spot and mention your preference of time and day). Cost for the class is $25.
Blessing of the Shawls On Sunday, February 25, the creations of the Shawl Ministry will be blessed during our Sunday services. Please turn in all completed projects to Mary Hunter prior to that date. The beautiful shawls and lap blankets will then be given to members of our Parish family as an outreach of love and comfort. The Shawl Ministry will continue to knit and crochet, gathering on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00 AM (Nancy's Place). If you are unable to join us on that date, you can still be a member of the ministry and contribute your creative efforts to the group. We also welcome all levels of experience in the yarn arts, from beginners to veterans. Don't know how to knit or crochet?...Come join us and we'll teach you! Can't make it to our regular scheduled gatherings?...Call Mary Hunter to arrange for "private lessons"! We have yarn and patterns available for you. If you are interested in joining us in this very worthwhile ministry, please contact Mary Hunter for more details (683-3488).

Mission & Outreach Corner Thanks to Robbie Shepard for agreeing to be the captain of this year’s home. Robbie, a roofing contractor, has encouraged us to re-roof the house. Much to the anticipated chagrin of my aching knees, this, and other repairs on a deserving house, will be tried. So, if you can paint, rake, lift, make sandwiches, or contribute in any way, please look for the sign up poster in the church. The work is in April, the date to be determined. Remember, the house will be chosen on Thursday, February 22. This trial effort to provide sandwiches to the Salvation Army seems to be going smoothly, with the second installment on January 27. I have been encouraged to be a bit more organized about the dates and have decided that the 3rd Saturday of the month @ 10:00 AM will be a good time. This allows plenty of time for prep work, sandwich making, and delivery. With a crew of 6 folks and an assembly line, we made 40+ sandwiches in less than 30 minutes. The next several 3rd Saturday’s are: February 17, April 21, March 17, May 19 Several folks have volunteered to be on a work team, but no takers yet for help. Please consider this opportunity for some basic assistance around the home. Call the church office and leave your name and need. I hope to get this effort going to help fellow parishioners. Meetings are held the 3rd Monday of the month in the parish hall at 5:30. The next meeting is February 19. It will entail discussion of plans for this year. Come if you wish to be on the council and wish to offer suggestions for more effective outreach. Patrick Collier, 695-0811
