HOLY TRINITY

CHILDREN’S DAY OUT

It’s always amazing to me how fast the year goes by. It seems like yesterday that we began our school year and now we are almost into summer. We have been very busy getting ready for the changes coming this fall. Our preschool program will be offered not only on Tuesday and Thursday, but Monday, Wednesday and Friday as well. With this change, we get a facelift to our playground and several other positive changes that you will see taking place. The program continues to improve and provide more for the children of Midland. We are pleased to have a very affordable program with a wonderful staff.

Our summer program is right around the corner with our focus on "Space". Don’t be surprised if you see strange or unusual objects flying in the air. We are looking forward to a very adventurous summer! If you would like more information on either the fall or summer program, you may contact me any time at 683-4200 or 413-0331.   Karen Parnell, CDO Director

CHRISTMAS IN ACTION

Many, many thanks to everyone who helped repair the CIA house last Friday and Saturday. Thanks also to those who provided food and drinks. Your desire to assist someone in need truly was Christianity in Action.

Special thanks to Robbie Shepard, Joe De Compiegne, and Deborah Chester for organizing the event. Your tireless efforts yielded great results.

SALVATION SANDWICHES

Thanks also to the folks who showed up last Saturday to make sandwiches for lunch at the Salvation Army. This is still a 6 month trial effort, and plenty of people show up for this 20 minute effort. The last scheduled date is May 19, but I am thinking of extending it. Remember, it is on the third Saturday of the month at 10:00 AM.

TOOL TIME

There have been no takers on this effort to provide some basic assistance around the home to older members, single moms, or others needing some help. Thus, I have decided to postpone this effort. Maybe it can materialize at some other point.

I am very pleased with the turn out for CIA and the number of folks who make sandwiches once a month. At this point, it doesn’t seem the church is quite ready for the grand plans I had scheduled. So, I think in addition to the sandwiches, periodic events (seasonal efforts to help in the community) may be the thrust the council needs to take. Look for other opportunities.

I still show up for meetings the 3rd Monday of the month in the parish hall at 5:30 and will continue to do so until my time on the council is over. Come if you wish to be on the council and wish to offer suggestions for more effective outreach.

Patrick Collier, 685-0811

THE WATOTO CHILDREN’S CHOIR

Since 1994 Watoto Children’s Choirs have toured internationally as ambassadors for Watoto Child Care Ministries, a holistic orphan care program based in Kampala, Uganda. "Concerts of Hope" inform people of Watoto’s vital work and afford audiences the opportunity to participate in restoring hope and dignity to some of Africa’s most needy children. The choir consists of eighteen boys and girls who have lost one or both of their parents, however, they now live in homes built by Watoto Child Care Ministries.

On Wednesday, May 2, the children of Holy Trinity, youth and any others who would like to join us, will be going to a concert put on by the Watoto Children's Choir, sponsored by True Lite Christian Fellowship.

We will meet at 6:30pm on the Holy Trinity Playground and caravan over to True Lite. Please email dedee@holytrinity.org, if you plan on attending. All Holy Trinity Children's programs will end at 6:30pm that evening so that everyone can go to the program.

This promises to be a wonderful event and a great cultural experience for everyone, but especially the children. Please join us!

Every Wednesday, Bob Hilton comes to Holy Trinity to pick up food in the grocery cart in the Parish Hall to give to the poor who attend Comunidad Alabare. Please remember to bring food, especially canned or dry goods. Remember, need knows no season. Thank you!

VOM News and Prayer Update: April 17, 2007

"Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." (James 1:27)

ETHIOPIA
Bible Students Arrested; Church Leaders' Houses Raided - VOM Sources

JIMMA - On March 22, two Bible school students were imprisoned on the accusation of attempting to kill an imam. They were released one week later with after paying a fine. A court hearing was scheduled for April 2, 2007.

BAMBASSE - April 2, the home of evangelist Tolosa Megersa was raided by local Muslims. Six of his cattle and sheep were killed. Five days later, the home of Full Gospel Church leader Lemmu Abdissa, was also raided. All of his property was destroyed, including 4,000 kilograms of grain.

Thank God for the release of the two students. Pray those who have lost property will be encouraged and rest in knowing they have "better and lasting possessions." Hebrews 10: 34-37

INDIA
Pastors Imprisoned; Church Building Demolished - VOM Sources/ Global Council of Indian Christians

GALIMERA TOWN - Pastor Jeremiah Majhi held a three-day evangelistic meeting in his church in April, 2006,

following which he baptized 20 new believers. While he was baptizing them, some members of anti-Christian Hindu groups came and beat him and the people who were being baptized. They destroyed his church and house. The attackers filed false charges against Pastor Jeremiah, saying he was smuggling drugs and other materials. The authorities arrested him, along with his nephew and have held them in prison since April 26, 2006. Bail applications have been presented and rejected. A new hearing is expected April 14, 2007.

GUNTHAPUT VILLAGE - On March 30, a mob of 300 Hindu militants completely demolished a church building in an attempt to kill Pastor Shri Chetti. According to a report from the Global Council of Indian Christians, during the demolition, the militants demanded that all Christians leave the village and said they will not allow any Christian worship centers in the area. The church has suffered persecution in the past when Hindu villagers burned down their building.

Pray these believers will continue to meet despite losing their property. Ask God to encourage them and for the persecutors to know Christ's love, forgiveness and blessing through the testimony of these Christians. Romans 12:14, 21
